Leopold Conservation Award families, some for many generations, have been living on, working at, and enhancing attractive landscapes. These landowners not only provide food and fiber to our nation, they also deliver, at no cost, an array of environmental benefits that go largely unnoticed by the public: clean water, open space, wildlife habitat, and recreation to name but a few.
This Year In Review features eight of these families, and Sand County Foundation, along with our in-state partners, had the pleasure of meeting and honoring them in 2012. These, as well as the award finalists in each state, are all extremely strong, charismatic, humble, and dedicated families who have made difficult decisions to manage their operations so they are both economically and environmentally successful. We respect them tremendously for using a land ethic as their guide toward improved agricultural decision-making. They are all outstanding stewards of the land, as well as being outstanding people.
